Parents
Biography
Daniel Rose, born circa 1631, died in 1696 at age 66 in Wethersfield, Connecticut. He married Elizabeth Goodrich who is said to have been born in 1645 in England. A Rose researcher (48) states that Daniel Rose married Elizabeth Goodrich in 1664. Elizabeth was born on November 2, 1645, daughter of John and Elizabeth Goodrich. Daniel Rose and his wife lived and died in Wethersfield. He was admitted freeman on May 11, 1665 and on October 11, 1669 “Danil Roas” was listed as freeman. He held various offices. He was fence viewer in 1669; pound-keeper in 1680, and drew in the 1670 and 1694 allotments. He bought Hugh Welles’ lands at Red Hill, East side river, 112 acres, in 1663, and bought Thos. Couch’s homestead west side of Sandy Lane 1666. He also bought of Sam’l Wylles in 1670, the Sherwood homestead of 17 acres on south side of what became Pratt’s Ferry Road, and sold 1 1/4 acres of this to Nath’l Foote in 1683. He gave his son Jonathan a homestead on north side of “road to Htfd,” next west to Stephen Mix, 1 1/2 acres with home in 1711. (49) From the Town Records of Branford, Samuel Bradfield of Branford to Daniel Rose, a parcel of upland on Mullines Neck, dated November 8, 1674. This was witnessed by John Wilford, Commissioner, and Eleazer Stent. From the same Town Records, Daniel Rose of Wethersfield gave right in land of 2 acres lying in great plaine and 1 acre in the Indian Neck to Jonathan Rose, 3 Mar 1674/75, signed before Josiah Gilbert and Jno ffrisbie. Daniel Rose of Wethersfield deeded to John Rose of Branford several parcels, November 6, 1677. Wit.: Daniel Swaine, John ffrisbie. He appended a notice “Received of my Cousin John Rose” full payment, October 29, 1680 When John Goodrich made his will June 9, 1672 in Wethersfield he gave “unto my daughter Elizabeth Rose” 16 shillings over and above what I have bestowed on her already. In the division of the estate are mentioned Joseph Goodrich, Jonathan Goodrich, Daniel Rose, Thomas Reed, and Zachariah Maynard. In 1680 the executors refused to qualify. The court ordered Lt. Samuel Steele, Daniel Rose and Joseph Goodrich administrators and ordered the distribution to be made. Transactions in this estate were still being recorded for many years. Daniel Rose, aged about 66, testified September 3, 1696 that he sold to Deacon John Robins a piece of land “which fell to me from my father John Goodrich Deceased.” (50) From Wethersfield Deeds Benjamin Smith of Wethersfield deeded to Daniel Rose on February 23, 1707/8, though the record does not specify Sr. or Jr. In deeds, Daniel Rose Senr. sold to Thomas Wright, acknowledged January 7, 1713/4. In June 1711 he made disposition of some of his property to some of his family, viz: to son Jonathan; son-in-law James Wright; son-in-law Jonathan Lattimer; and son Daniel Jr. He probably died soon after.
The children of Daniel and Elizabeth were: (51)
Elizabeth Rose, born April 15, 1665, married Obadiah Coolidge (said to be 6th great grandfather of President Calvin Coolidge) and/or Joshua Robbins. There is a dispute regarding who Elizabeth married, but Obadiah Coolidge is probably correct. Elizabeth is said to have died April 24, 1736.
