Henry Griffin was born about 1782 in Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut. He and
Anna Leonard were married about 1808 in Berkshire, Tioga County, New York. He died in 1820 at age ~38 in At sea.
He was a master mariner, came to Berkshire about 1804 or 1805, and settled on the north half of lot 385. After the War of 1812, he found life in the woods distasteful and moved his family to New York City and resumed seafaring. He died on a voyage between San Domingo and Porto Rico, under circumstances which led his friends to believe that he was murdered. Asa Leonard brought his daughter and their children back to Berkshire. She afterwards went to dwell with her son at Woodstock, IL.

In the 1850 Census, he was a wealthy farmer (farm worth over $10,000) living with his family in Berkshire. He was a woolcarder and cloth-dresser, taught school in Richmond, MA, the winter that his father-in-law (Asa Leonard) left there, and in May 1814 drove his father's cattle to Berkshire, NY. He was still living in Berkshire in 1877 at age 92. John Brush Royce had person sources.
