Lt. William Fobes was born in 1650 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He and
Martha Pabodie were married on 4 April 1677 in Little Compton, Rhode Island. He died on 6 November 1712 at age ~62 in Little Compton, Rhode Island. He was buried at Commons Cemetery in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
Lt. William Fobes was also known as William Fobes. A number of references state that Elizabeth Gallup was the wife of William Fobes, including Little Compton Families, p. 271, and the Genealogical Register of Plymouth Families, pp. 246-248. C.A. Torrey in New England Marriages Prior to 1700 says no, William Fobes did not marry Elizabeth Southworth. Elizabeth Collier married Constant Southworth November 2, 1627 (when he was 12 years old)? He was born in Leyden in 1615 and died March 10, 1679. Her youngest child lived in Bristol, and she probably moved there with her two daughters upon Constant's death. It appears she would have been too old to have a child by William in any case. See article by Dorothy Chapman Saunders, "Was Samuel Gallup of Bristol RI the lost son of Captain John Gallop of Boston MA and Stonington CT?"
The Mayflower Society denies that William Fobes and Martha Pabodie were the parents of Phebe Fobes Smith, stating that they did not have a daughter named Phebe (John Alden silver book).
Mrs. Charles L. Alden, in Elizabeth Alden Pabodie and Descendants," 1897, p. 11, states that Elizabeth Southworth's father was opposed to her marriage to William Fobes, but she did and had by him two children, Phebe and Martha. Lt. William Fobes left a will in Taunton Probate Records, Book 3, page 112, mentioning daughters Elizabeth Briggs, wife of William Briggs, daughter Constant Little, grandsons Fobes Southworth, Samuel Seabury, and John Sawyer.

Objections against proving will of William Fobes of Little Compton were registered by Edward Southworth of Little Compton "in behalfe of himself and Fobes Southworth and Rebeccah Southworth," his children and grandchildren of said William Fobes, dtd. 12 Nov 1712 (3:111/2) Bristol Co., MA Probate Records, 1687-1745, Vol. III (Part1) 1710-1717.
