One of the Leiden Separatist Leaders. English origins are given by Elizabeth French, "Genealogical Research in England -- Cushman," NEHGS 68:181.
He arrived on the Fortune in 1621 with his son Thomas, but returned to England with the Fortune, leaving Thomas in the care of Governor Bradford. See Small Descendants, 2:669. He was originally on the Speedwell. He was assigned land in Plymouth as if he had been on the Mayflower due to his services to the Pilgrims. He remained mostly in London after 1617, negotiating with the merchants who were underwriting the Plymouth Colony. Deacon Robert Cushman had person sources.

Richard immigrated in 1633, first residing in Plymouth, then Marblehead by 1637, Yarmouth by 1639. His wife may have been Dorothy Jones. He joined the colonists under Anthony Thacher who went to Cape Cod and founded Yarmouth. His first house was built on Quivet Neck, with a second built nearby. He initially lived at Plymouth, but then removed to Marblehead and later to Yarmouth.
