Biography

Deacon Robert Cushman was born before 9 February 1578 in Rolveden, Kent, England. He and Sara Reder were married on 31 July 1606 in Saint Alphege, Canterbury, Kent, England.¹ He and Mary Clarke Singleton were married on 6 June 1617 in England. He died on 6 May 1625 in Benenden, Kent, England.

One of the Leiden Separatist Leaders. English origins are given by Elizabeth French, "Genealogical Research in England -- Cushman," NEHGS 68:181.

He arrived on the Fortune in 1621 with his son Thomas, but returned to England with the Fortune, leaving Thomas in the care of Governor Bradford. See Small Descendants, 2:669. He was originally on the Speedwell. He was assigned land in Plymouth as if he had been on the Mayflower due to his services to the Pilgrims. He remained mostly in London after 1617, negotiating with the merchants who were underwriting the Plymouth Colony. Deacon Robert Cushman had person sources.²

Biography

Richard Sears was born in 1590 in Amsterdam, Noorhalland, Holland. He and Dorothy Batt were married about 1632 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts. He and Dorothy Jones were married before 1637. He died on 26 August 1676 at age ~86 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Richard immigrated in 1633, first residing in Plymouth, then Marblehead by 1637, Yarmouth by 1639. His wife may have been Dorothy Jones. He joined the colonists under Anthony Thacher who went to Cape Cod and founded Yarmouth. His first house was built on Quivet Neck, with a second built nearby. He initially lived at Plymouth, but then removed to Marblehead and later to Yarmouth.

For a genealogy of Richard Sears, check The Descendants of Richard Sares (Sears) of Yarmouth, Mass., 1638 - 1888 (Albany, 1890) by Sanuel Pearce May. Richard Sears was born about 1595. He died on 5 September 1676 at age ~86 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
