John Gladding

John Gladding was born on 30 June 1717 in Bristol, Rhode Island. He and
Mary Drowne were married on 25 September 1738 in Bristol, Rhode Island. He and
Hannah Short were married on 6 September 1759. He died on 15 November 1785 at age 68 in Bristol, Rhode Island. He was buried in Old Burial Ground on the East Side of Common, Bristol, Rhode Island.
Capt. John Gladding owned a sloop and was both a ship's captain and a shoemaker. He kept a journal in which he described the British attacks against Bristol in 1775 and 1776 when 130 of their ships came into Bristol harbor. Fourteen families, including his, fled to Dighton where they remained until April 1779. He owned a house on Bradford Street in Bristol. John Gladding had person sources.
