Abraham Washburn with who he remained until he was 21, afterwards being in partnership with him and later with Capt. Abial Ames. He resided in West Bridgewater until his death in 1879. Capt. He graduated from the State Normal School at Bridgewater, then studied for the law. He was admitted to the bar in 1852. He removed to the west and returned to MA at the beginning of the Civil War. He became a captain of Company I, 58th MA Brigade in 1864 and Judge Advocate of the Second Division of the 9th Army Corps in 1865. In 1872 he was appointed superintendent of the State Work House at Bridgewater, where he served until his resignation in 1884. He was writing a history of the 58th MA Brigade.
