Henry Leonard was nicknamed "H.P.," "Horse Power," because of his energy and perseverance.

"He and his brother had some dissatisfaction with the status quo or some impatience with others and some reluctance to relinquish control, but I think they had strength of mind and a wish to grow the world view in a positive way, that has been successful in succeeding generations. Paul Chesbro's books on Barnstable County are a good source of information on the Leonards in Osterville and the female side of the family for many generations." (Judy Leonard.)
